Telly's bald little body gets stressed from his cart straps. I have always put a pad underneath the rubber tubing that goes over his back....but the same type of rubber tube goes underneath his chest, too. And the little skinny mini keeps needing it adjusted as he keeps losing weight. On a dog with hair, it really wouldnt be a problem, but he has such thin skin and NO hair! He dents easily : )
I was thinking that covering those tubes
with fake sheepskin.
The dogs were playing and I noticed that one of the toys that Sandy gave him was made of sheepskin. It was a long toy with a knot in the middle. I suddenly had a brilliant idea to cut the knot out of the middle and the two sides would be PERFECT to slide over the rubber hoses!!!
It worked! Thanks Sandy!
PS....I have cut Telly's Clavamox back even more. He is down to 1/4 of a 125mg pill a day! A big difference from the 125mg a day he was taking! Still no UTI. Keep your fingers crossed for him!
FYI... I dont know what Telly weighs these days. But when I first got the little sausage, his girth around his weiner area was 18". He's now 13" and I have a hard time keeping his belly band on him!

We went to the Omaha Dog Park's ( www.omahadogpark.org ) spring fundraiser. It was called "Bark in the Park". The cost was $15 for two dogs. We didnt take advantage of all the fun activities, as chasing a little blue dog in a cart kept us busy!
I brought my camera...but took ZERO pictures! I am waiting for the dog park website to post their photos, as EVERYONE who had a camera seemed to be squatting down to take a picture of the funny looking little bald dog in the "wheel chair". When I see one...I'll steal and repost it here : )
The weather was perfect... a little overcast and 60 degrees.
We only brought Jeau and Telly. Poor Linus and Teena stayed home. Teena would have been a good girl, but Linus is becoming very cranky in multiple dog situations. The poor boy was yodelling his misery as we left. We made Teena stay home with him (his sister) so that he didnt commit suicide or anything drastic like that.
The announcer saw us come in and said over the loud-speaker, "I gotta find out more about that!" We were interviewed over the loud-speaker for about five minutes. We told Telly's story and mentioned Hearts United for the Animals about ten times. I said their URL at least five times ( www.hua.org )
I was very disappointed that Hearts United for the Animals did not have a booth at this event! Disappointed and surprised! I just assumed they'd be there : (

What is Telly looking at??
|
|
His favorite prey...
A fat squirrel.
(this poor tree was ravaged by an ice storm over the winter. I think its days are numbered)
|
|
There is usually a squirrel in every tree surrounding our deck (yes, I feed them)
It keeps the little blue dog busy!
And he can see them from his downstairs-crate in the house.
Fat squirrel waits patiently for the little blue dog's recess to end.
|
|
Another frequent visitor - a red-headed woodpecker
I also have four pair of cardinals in the yard!
One of the males is a vibrant, day-glo red/orange! Theyre all beautiful.

We took the dogs to the dog park.
I brought a Cuz ball for their chasing pleasure. Everyone got into the game...even Telly.
Telly got smart and gave himself a "handicap" lead over the others
|
|
April 7, 2008
Throw it, Mom! Throw it over and over again!
Honestly, I think Jeau would chase a ball 1000 times if I were to throw it 1000 times.
|

|
April 7, 2008
Everyone is just a little bit upset that the blue dog actually got the ball!
But then....
Little blue dog says,
"Darn. Jeau got the ball back. I will respect his space."

There was a beautiful little girl there who was completely taken with Telly. She was probably no older than five. She kept following him, cupping his head, and very gently petting him.
Someday, that little girl will do something wonderful for animals. Just a feeling I have...

The dogs all got groomed a couple of days ago. Jeau's crowning glory has taken on a new look.
He has gone from his usual Don King crazy hair...
to a more smoothed look...similar to...

Telly's sad story has a long arm. Thanks to this wonderful medium called the "internet', he met a wonderful friend in New York. Her name is Gina von Eiff, a Reiki Master, and she offered to give Telly some long distance Reiki sessions. I was not familiar with Reiki, but, in a very small nutshell, here is a quickie definition (from Wikipedia.com):
Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is said to be a form of spiritual practice used as a complementary therapy for the treatment of physical, emotional, and mental diseases. Practitioners use a technique similar to the laying on of hands, which they say will "channel healing energy" (ki). Practitioners state that energy flows through their palms to bring about healing and that the method can be used for self-treatment as well as treatment of others.
Rei means "spiritual" and Ki means "energy" or "life force".
I do not discount anything in this world, even if I dont understand how it works, and am open to new experiences and treatments for my little man.
Click here to read about Telly's experience with his Reiki treatments that Gina is performing. I will also be updating and logging his acupuncture sessions here. It was really amazing what happened on the first night -

Lots to update!
The kids love to sun. Linus, Teena, & Telly all found their own little patch of sun.

I had wild turkeys in the yard today! They're HUGE

Update on Telly's UTI situation.
He had been on 125mg a day of Clavamox. After a couple of months, I decided to try half that dose. It has been a month now and the 62.5mg a day seem to be doing the trick! Yay!

Weiner dogs weiner dogs and more weiner dogs!!!
Our Meetup.com dachshund group from the Omaha area met at the Bona Fide training academy for an hour. Wow! What a turnout!
Here are some pics from the event.
Bob and I are on the far left. Bob is holding Teena and Jeau. I am in front of him on the floor and am wrangling Linus and Telly.

Linus...always at my feet
Jeau...looking scruffy
Teena...looking worried

March 5, 2008
My rats all congregated at the window. All the activity in the room and they all sit by the window and bark at passersby.
Telly was a little social butterfly.

Walgreens had BIG BoBo's on sale!!!! Not the tiny ones. Not the little ones. Not the medium ones....but the BIG ONES!!! They were only $3 each. I made sure each one had a working squeaker in the head and wonk wonk sounding thingy in its gut. And then I bought them out. All four big ones that they had. They did have some of the medium sized ones, but they were more expensive than the big ones (2/$7.)
Everyone was very excited about them! I dont know who was more excited...the dogs...or me? OK...Jeau and I were equally excited.
|
 |
Jeau selects the pink one : )
|

|
March 5, 2008
And then I did what any loving dog-mom would do...I strapped them all onto Telly.
|

|
What?
This isnt normal behaviour?
A dog with Bobo's strapped to him?
I can make it more weird : )
A bald, blue, paralyzed, doggie-diapered, poop-bagged, dachshund with four giant Bobo's strapped to him...in a cart. OK. I have achieved weird.
Around here....that's normal.
|
 |
Jeau gets irritated waiting for the Bobotellymonster to give some up...or for one to shed off
...so he gently grabs a Bobo and starts pulling.
Pulling a dog on wheels...backwards.
|
 |
"HEY! STOP PULLING ME, JEAU!!!" says Telly.
Jeau looks a little embarassed.
He says, "Oops...I didnt think you'd miss that one. And I didnt realize that you were so attached to all of the BoBo's."
|
 |
Telly says,
"Will you please unstrap the Bobo bombs from me? I'm scared."
(Notice that Telly has very flat ears. If he were having fun, he would look like the flying nun with his goofy ears sticking out wider than his head.)
Jeaus says,
"FAVORITISM!!!! HAND OUT THOSE BOBO's RIGHT NOW before somebody gets hurt! HEY! I have an idea! You could strap them to me??!!"
|
 |
"I know I'm cute....NOW GET THESE STUPID, "GRINNING-LIKE-IDIOTS", LONG DOGS OFF ME! .......thank you."

Telly had company over today!
Sandy and Kay came to visit Telly and the whole weiner dog crew. They brought a gift basket with tons of toys, treats, and a wonderful doggie card with weiner dogs on it! The blue basket is really cool, too!
Thanks Sandy and Kay!!! That's Sandy in the picture.
|
 |
February 23, 2008
Look at the tails wagging! Those three were pushing that basket all over the floor snooping through the new toys.
|
 |
February 23, 2008
Telly was the first one to get into the basket. He chose a squeaky toy and took off like lightning for some chewing privacy.
Look how his nose is turned!

Sandy missed Telly! And he remembered her!

Jeau was a happy, happy, HAPPY boy. He had a whole crew of designated throwers. Between Sandy, Kay, and me, we probably threw toys over 100 times for Jeau!
And you gotta love that 'do.

February 23, 2008
Telly's snazzy, plaid diaper. I use an overnight Maxi pad in it. Kinda looks like lederhosen...except that I do believe that the translation of lederhosen means, "Leather Shorts". Hmmm ...I wonder what the German translation for plaid doggie diaper is? My translator comes up with "Plaidhundewindel"
Plaid is obviously Telly's "color". And who says that stripes make you look fat?
Dont tell him that there's a pretty bow on his back : )

February 23, 2008
Ahhhhh!!!! Runnnnnnn!!! It's a blanket monster!!!
When Telly gets himself thoroughly buried in blankets, this is how he emerges. He does get frustrated, tho, as the blanket wont let the wheels turn. He starts grumbling when he needs help.
|
 |
February 23, 2008
Here's the blanket monster's blow-hole.
