Animal Reiki
Telly's sad story has a long arm. Thanks to this wonderful medium called the "internet', he met a wonderful friend in New York. Her name is Gina von Eiff, a Reiki Master, and she offered to give Telly some long distance Reiki sessions. I was not familiar with Reiki, but, in a very small nutshell, here is a quickie definition (from Wikipedia.com):

Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is said to be a form of spiritual practice used as a complementary therapy for the treatment of physical, emotional, and mental diseases. Practitioners use a technique similar to the laying on of hands, which they say will "channel healing energy" (ki). Practitioners state that energy flows through their palms to bring about healing and that the method can be used for self-treatment as well as treatment of others.

Rei means "spiritual" and Ki means "energy" or "life force".

I do not discount anything in this world, even if I dont understand how it works, and am open to new experiences and treatments for my little man.

Telly's First Treatment - April 1, 2008
Here is some behaviour that Gina said I might expect to see from Telly during the 45 minutes session. He might be confused or wonder what is touching him. She said that a lot of animals fall into a deep sleep, as it can be a very relaxing experience. She said that for the first ten minutes, she performs an "attunement" and that I probably wouldnt see any unusual behaviour during that time.

She performed the session from 9:20 pm - 10:05 pm. And, just for the record, Telly usually crashes really hard for the evening around 8. A bomb can go off and he doesnt budge. Ok, a bomb meaning "all the other dogs are barking at something and he doesnt even stir." So, when I saw him burrow into a bed/blanket at 9:30, I figured he would be there for the duration of the treatment and until I plucked him up and took him to bed.

Here is how the session transpired (with pictures):
9:20 - Telly is hanging out of a house. He loves the camera and is always attentive when it's around. I love the Dumbo ears!

9:30
- Telly heads over to his bed and blanket and burrows under it. Usually, he is out for the night....but something strange happened...  (no pic)

9:34 - Telly backed out of his bed and shot into the dining room. Total Dumbo ears. He looked a bit frantic. Nothing unusual was going on in the house. I was doing dishes and the other dogs were all quiet. (no pic)

9:36 - Telly comes to me trembling. He then goes into the kitchen and begins looking up in the air. He follows the cabinets and keeps looking up, as if he sees something or is trying to see something. Just for the record, he has never done anything like this before.

9:40
- Telly is trembling and keeps doing a full body shudder. He does this shudder when I work with his legs and he feels weird sensations. I try to talk to him and make him feel safe...but he is confused, worried, and scared. He is not interested in my repeated photographs, like he usually is.

9:42 - Telly heads back over to his bed, buries himself, but doesnt put his head down. This is highly unusual. Every couple of minutes, one of his back legs kicks really hard. (his legs never do this when he is on his bed resting comfortably...only when I stimulate them and am working with them) His tail is also quivering. I keep patting him and telling him it's ok.

9:55 - Telly finally relaxes and puts his head down....though he keeps shifting positions in his cart (he doesnt usually do this after he's buried himself)

10:05 - Telly has been still and relaxed for the last five minutes. At 10:05, he shifts again and the phone rings 20 seconds later. It's Gina and she's finished the session.

Gina had a lot of interesting feedback. She had thought that Telly's main area of concern was his back...but it was his head and neck. She also said that animals, since they cant speak, send images to her. She said that Telly was in a dark shed with a lot of other dogs. The man would kick him. He kicked all of the dogs. Telly tried to be the protector for his females...but he was injured from the abuse.

This would explain why Telly runs the other direction every time a door opens. Any door. House door, dishwasher door, refrigerator door, cabinets, drawers, washing machine door... He runs away to a safe distance and then turns around to see if it's safe.

10:30 - After talking to Gina on the phone, I took Telly up to bed. I tried snuggling with him on our bed...kissing him and holding him close. No response. He is usually a kissy, kissy little man. I can never get close to his snoop without a barage of quick little kisses. Tonite,  Telly sat and stared straight ahead. No kisses. He was a million miles away. As if he had the weight of the world on his little, tiny shoulders.
Telly's Second Treatment - April 2, 2008

The session lasted a little over 30 minutes and Telly was a bit restless in the beginning. During the last fifteen minutes, I kept peeking at him under his blanket. His eyes were tightly closed...almost as if he were unconscious. Usually, when I peek at him, he always wakes up and looks at me. Even after Gina finished, he was totally zonked out. He finally opened his eyes when I carried him up to bed, but when I tucked him in, he burrowed under his blankies and was out for the night.
Subsequent treatments -

Thank you so much to Gina. She has consistently given Telly treatments at least three nights a week. Telly relaxes completely now for the treatments. He lets out big sighs every now and again during treatment.

Gina lets me know what areas she senses are problem areas for Telly and I work on them. Some problem areas are behind his legs (probably from the stress of pulling a cart) and the area near his scar. She has me work on massaging his scar tissue using heat, castor oil, and vibration.

His tail seems to be moving more lately! I would give anything to see it wag back and forth. For now, it just nudges up and down.
